How to Create an Optimal Learning Environment for Students

I visit a lot of schools, and I was mesmerized to see a classroom where every student is doing something different and they are happy with their work, as I asked the faculty, she told me that it’s their creativity class, so they create whatever they want to and these types of activities boost their way of learning which is a great benefit when compared to the ways I used to prepare for my GMAT Exam.

Creating an Optimal Learning Environment is very much important because a good environment radiates positive vibes and the curiosity to learn.

Here are some simple ways to create an optimal learning environment for students.

Voice tone

Changing the tone, expression in voice when expressing new concepts will spark a curiosity in a student. One should speak in genuine expression while encouraging and praising students. Changing the volume of your voice according to the situations is also a very effective way of teaching, if you speak in the same tone or in the same volume the listeners will feel bored. Using a whispering voice indicates mystery and conspiracy which will build excitement in students, whereas a loud voice will indicate towards an important chapter or topic.

Care

The child will not succeed in the class if he/she is starving. They will also not perform well if they are dealing with any problem in their life. Teachers should take care of them and show them that they care about their personal well-being. A teacher should talk to the students and ask them about their day to day life.

Humor in class

A smile is a precious gift that gives energy and invigorating passion to the group. Humour creates a fun and animated classroom environment for all students. Laughter enhances the learning process, laughter reduces stress, and it increases self-esteem. It also enhances the teacher-student communication.

Changing the interior of the classroom

Changing the classroom environment constantly can improve learning in students. The layout of the classroom should be changed by varying desks and seating arrangements.

Rewarding students with edible items depending upon their day to day performance also enhance the learning process.

Admit What you Don’t Know

Saying, “I am not really sure, does anyone else know or they like to look that up for the class?” Students appreciate when teachers or guardians shows their humanity.

Share your story

Ask the students to write their own story. They will appreciate this, if we ask them to write about the times they felt scared, alone, confused etc.

Make them smile

Make the students smile, suppose you are teaching in a classroom, and the chapter you are teaching is very boring, so at that time make them laugh by telling some jokes. The more smile we offer them, the more we will receive.

Laugh with them

Participate in their talks. Make yourself comfortable with the students.

Post Student work

Paste poems, essays, and projects on the wall, made by students because when they look around and see their own writing and thinking, they certainly experience a higher level of comfort than if they see store-bought posters, Periodic Table.
